Tree & Shrub Club: Native Trees & Shrubs

Native trees and shrubs are plants that come from our region. They are well adapted to our climate and conditions, and as such don’t require as much fussing and care as would ornamentals or cultivated plants. This means less maintenance, which is one of the bonuses of planting native plants. Native species also tend to be more drought-tolerant, and more resistant to pest and disease problems than their cultivated counterparts. Native plants play an important role for local pollinators such a bees and butterflies, and sustain our birds and wildlife.
